The Urubamba River: One or two days

The Urubamba River runs from the heights of the Andes down to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, past Machu Picchu and into the jungle. Some sections have very exciting white water during the rafting season. One of the most popular of these areas is the Cusipata section which has good Class III rapids and is not contaminated as are the Huambutio and Ollantaytambo sections.

Itinerary:

Day 1:

We will pick you up at your hotel and after a one and a half hour drive we will arrive at the put-in of “Casa Cusi”, our private camp ground on the shores of the Upper Urubamba. Our professional rafting guides will give you a safety talk and provide you with all the equipment you will need. We’ll spend approximately two and a half hours on the river, running Class II and III introductory type rapids. When we arrive at our take-out a private bus will be waiting to take us back to Casa Cusi for a soak in the warm sauna and a full-course lunch. We will return to Cusco at about 5:00 p.m.

If you decide to stay for a second day, you will spend the night in Casa Cusi’s thatched roof camping area equipped with hammocks. There is a comfortable dining place as well as excellent food. You will be lulled asleep by the mummer of the river.

Day 2:

After a health breakfast, we will drive to the Chuquicahuana section of the river to run Class IV and V rapids for approximately two hours. ………………We’ll have a barbeque lunch at Casa Cusi and return to Cusco in the late afternoon.

Included in the trip price:

  • Transportation from Cusco to put-in at the river
  • All rafting equipment including helmet, life jacket, paddle and self-bailing raft
  • Spray jacket and wet suit
  • Professional, English-speaking guide
  • Picnic lunch
  • Transportation back to Cusco

If you are spending the night:
